Sophia Bush Actress

Sophia Bush

Sophia stars as "Brooke Davis" on WB's drama series "One Tree Hill". Bush started her career on her high school theater stage. Having been crowned the Pasadena Rose Queen, Bush quickly attracted representation. Bush recently wrapped production on the feature film Supercross, co-starring Daryl Hannah and Robert Patrick. She landed her first movie role in the comedy Van Wilder, with Ryan Reynolds and Tara Reid. Bush played Sally, a freshman in college who harbored a huge crush on Reynolds' character. She also appeared in HBO's Point of Origin, with Ray Liotta and John Leguizamo, and the independent film Learning Curves. Bush was featured in a three-episode arc in the drama Nip/Tuck, as a devious teenage bisexual. She also made a guest appearance on The WB's Sabrina The Teenage Witch, as Sabrina's arch rival. Currently living in Wilmington, North Carolina while filming the series, Bush is an avid scrap-booker. Besides taking photographs for her books, she enjoys reading and spending time with her friends. Sophia Bush was born on July 8, 1982, in Los Angeles, California.

Sophia Bush has been acting professionally since she was 19, she managed to fit in three years of college at the University of Southern California. How did she like USC?

"It's a fantastic school academically," she says. "And I feel I filled my years at USC in both my education and extracurricular activities. I'd love to go back and graduate. I read continually and I write a lot—ideas for stories and things. I would love one day to write a book."

Unfortunately for Bush, her professional acting career didn't get off to a flying start. Although she was cast as the heroine in the blockbuster Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, she was fired soon after shooting began because director Jonathan Mostow thought she looked too young. Bush was replaced by Claire Danes.

Sophia Bush's Quotation:

"I love being in someone else's skin every day.''

Sophia Bush: Chad and I just seem to ebb and flow

A lot's happened since Sophia Bush won the role of Brooke on One Tree Hill. And yeah, the thrill of getting paid to "run around and feel bubbly and spastic" shows no signs of wearing off anytime soon. Here, Bush gives you an inside view of where she came from, what she's up to, and, of course, updates about her favorite subject, Sophia off-screen fiancée, Chad.

On her Lord and The Ring: "I love to be able to look at my [left] hand and know that [Chad] designed this ring. It came from the very inside of him. It's a reminder of who we are together. We just seem to ebb and flow."

On the importance of BFFs: "Brooke and Peyton are dealing with a lot right now in terms of betrayals and trust and getting through what has gone on in the past. Confronting these things is really important because best friends are the most important support system you can find in high school."

On faking it: "Brooke is definitely confident shall we say, she is daring, she is a little wild. She does everything on the planet that I would have never done, in high school, I mean I read the scripts and I think: I can't do this! She's a role model of what not to do! She sets examples of what can really hurt you if you let it, if you take things too far."

On never having to say you're sorry: "Brooke doesn't apologize for herself. I love that about her! She's like: Look this is me. This is what I like. This is what I do. Take it or leave it...She's like any other woman who is not quite comfortable in her own skin, she goes home and cries when she is alone."

On what's coming down the Tree Hill pike next: "We're chipping away at who all of these people really are. You're going to see a lot of people struggling to figure out who they really are. It's universal, that struggle and thankfully, we've got characters viewers, at any stage in their lives, can relate to."

Brooke Davis - Sophia Bush

Sophia Bush, former beauty queen turned actress (think Van Wilder and Nip/Tuck), finds a new home on One Tree Hill as Brooke, a wildly outrageous flirt whose main goal in life is to snag every hottie in town.

My character is: "In for some big changes, I think. Right now, life is one big party, but that is not the key to life and I think - well, I hope - she is going to realize you have got to have something deeper than that to go by in life."

The scariest thing about taking this gig on: "Was moving so far away from my home [to Wilmington, NC, where One Tree Hill is shot]. It was nerve-wracking! I grew up in Los Angeles and I went to [college] there, so I'd never really left home. Now, I love it so much, hurricanes and all. I hope we get to stay here for a long, long time."

Playing a cheerleader is: "Totally bizarre. I went to a very small, private, all-girls school my entire life. We never did the cheer thing. The first couple of weeks on the show, I felt completely spastic, especially when we had to do those choreographed chant things. Now, Hilarie [Burton] and I look forward to the days we shoot cheers. We get to run around, act bubbly and shake our pom-poms in people's faces."

Working with Chad Michael Murray is: "The best! When I first got here, I was a little timid, but everybody was so welcoming. The cast and crew are really tight now. We try to make time to go out on weekends together. We play pool and dance. For a tall, skinny, white guy, Chad really can dance. He knows how to shake it."

In Step With…Sophia Bush

Her 22nd birthday was coming up, and Sophia Bush of the WB’s successful teen series One Tree Hill was wrapping a new movie and getting ready to fly to Australia to hook up with her fiancé. I don’t know about you, but life wasn’t quite this eventful when I was her age.

But for the very cool Ms. Bush, who was once the queen of the Rose Bowl Parade in her hometown of Pasadena, Calif., I guess you develop a certain grace under pressure. Her fiancé—Chad Michael Murray, who’s also on One Tree Hill—was Down Under making a movie of his own. According to Sophia, they’ve already set the wedding for next spring. “I feel so fortunate to have found my partner for life,” said Sophia, “and to be doing the work I love.”

With all the youth-oriented shows that start each fall, so few survive. So why does Ms. Bush think One Tree Hill works?

“Because it’s real,” she said. “What happens to these kids happens in real life: pregnancy, conflict with parents, parents divorcing. There’s someone in our show for everyone to relate to.” Sophia plays the feisty cheerleader Brooke Davis, but she insists she isn’t being typecast. “I was never a cheerleader,” she told me. “Or a seductive vixen.” I asked about her character.

“Brooke doesn’t really have a family,” she said. “She unleashes her insecurities, and then she becomes sexual to cover up. She is a role model for what not to do for young girls. Now she’ll have a mother for the first time.” When I asked where they would get her, Ms. Bush, by now a veteran of television’s wonders, said: “They’ll invent a mother.”

By the time you read this, both Sophia and Chad ought to be back in Wilmington, N.C., hard at work on the second season.

“It’s beautiful there,” Sophia said. “Nice people. Chad and I found a garage, and we hang out with the owner, Tom.” Both Chad and Sophia are car buffs. “Chad built a car for me,” she said, “a 1965 fastback Shelby Mustang—red with a white racing stripe. It’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.”
